One of our favorite things to see during the planning process is for a bride to bring in inspiration photos from other Sonnet House weddings. There is really no better compliment, to us or to our past couples. Kaley + Nick’s April wedding is one of those weddings that will serve as inspiration to brides for years to come. Frankly, that is the beauty of choosing timeless and classic fashion, floral designs, and venues. While trends and fads are a ton of fun and great for small touches, you may just regret some of those choices down the road.
Kaley was one of our first brides booked for the 2017 season and we knew from our first planning meeting with her and her mom that the wedding day would be amazing. Usually by the time we have our initial meeting most brides have chosen their wedding gown. Intentional or not, the dress you choose says so much about your wedding style and taste, and is usually a great indicator to us of the direction the wedding decor will go. She wore a lovely Essense of Australia A-line gown with a sweetheart neckline from Bella’s Bridal in Hoover, which is also where the bridesmaid’s charcoal dresses were from. You also can’t go wrong with a classic black tuxedo like Nick and his groomsmen wore.
As we get into the busy season for wedding planning, it is already very obvious that Kaley + Nick’s wedding is one that many many brides will use as reference for their 2018 weddings. Kaley went with a lovely bold pastel color palette that went perfectly with the bridesmaid’s dresses. And the way it popped against the white of Kaley’s gown? Stunning, Corey Daniel Florals took our breath away! Their wedding day also gave us the opportunity to work with two vendors for the first time and adored them both! Cakes by Elise delivered a spectacular cake with a beautifully painted watercolor monogram. We love Katie Elise Photography’s relaxed candid style of shooting. Thank you for sharing you gorgeous work with us!
Guests had plenty to keep them busy between the Go Photo Yourself photo booth and Chace from OnSite Productions always has the crowd on the dance floor. Kaley’s uncle drives occasionally for Vintage Auto and was on hand at the end of the night to wisk the newlyweds away.
It was another perfect wedding day and it’s all thanks to a wonderful vendor team! We caught up with Kaley + Nick recently and here’s what they had to say.
Q&A with Kaley + Nick | November 2017
You and Nick were high school sweethearts and obviously becoming engaged was a milestone in your relationship. Was the planning process more special to you since it had been years of anticipation leading up to one of the happiest days of your lives? | The planning process probably began many years before we were engaged. So when he finally asked I was beyond ready to get started planning. Although I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, when I started planning with The Sonnet House they featured ways to make our special day unique and memorable.
Many brides don’t realize that they typically choose wedding gowns that suit their personal taste and style. Your stunning Essence of Australia gown from Bella’s Bridal was not only breathtaking but the elegant simplicity of it fit your overall style perfectly. Was it the dress you intended on purchasing or did you have a different dress in mind when you originally set out gown shopping? | I absolutely shocked myself when I chose my gown. I went into Bella’s expecting to purchase a lace, fitted, gown. Nick had seen me in many different types of dresses over our years of dating and I knew I wanted something that he would never expect. It was the first dress I tried on and from that moment I didn’t want to take it off. Although it seemed simple, it was more than enough to fit into our perfect day.
Since we’re on the topic of style, let’s talk about your wedding flowers! We always love to hear that a bride wants to incorporate color, especially during the Spring when so many flowers are available. Your wedding has already been a great inspiration to many of our 2018 brides, can you tell us about where you found your floral inspiration? | I always knew I wanted gray as my primary color but I’ve never been known to use neutrals so I knew we had to add a pop of color somewhere. That prefect pop of color is exactly what I got and it was FLAWLESS. I never found a picture of exactly what I wanted but I explained what I imagined and The Sonnet House more than fulfilled my expectations.
Your cake was not only a statement piece, but delicious. It was also our first time to work with Cakes by Elise, who has been back a few times since then and will even be in her sister’s wedding at The Sonnet House next April. Tell us about how you came up with the overall aesthetic for the cake design (and how fun it was to not have a white cake). | Elise is a family friend and an extremely talented baker. I found a cake in the Alabama Wedding Magazine that I loved but did not fit our overall style. With us using flowers to incorporate our color, I also wanted to incorporate color into my cake. Elise went above and beyond to make sure I had the perfect design and the perfect blush color cake to fit into our wedding plans. The cake not only exceeded my expectations but also tasted amazing!
Overall, would you have planned anything differently for your wedding day or did it turn out just as you hoped it would? | Looking back, there is nothing I would change. We have been to a few weddings since ours and have multiple friends engaged, we always encourage the couples to slow down and take a moment to enjoy their day. By far, my favorite part of the entire day is the moment the doors opened and I walked down the aisle. In that moment so many memories crossed my mind. From looking at Nick and remembering our first date when I was only 15 to looking at my dad remembering my childhood memories with him. The Sonnet House made our day unforgettable and we are forever grateful for them!
