When I started preparing for this blog post I was instantly taken back to mid-June and reminded of what a perfect day it was for Ashlee + Spencer! Several years ago I had the privilege of coordinating Ashlee’s sister’s wedding when I managed another venue. I was excited when Ashlee and her mom toured The Sonnet House and thrilled when they booked us.
You can’t really talk about Ashlee + Spencer’s wedding day without starting with her wedding dress. She purchased the Essense of Australia gown from Diane’s Formal Affair in Jasper, Alabama. The bodice was a sweetheart neckline with ivory lace. The skirt? A blush organza and tulle ballgown complete with fabric buttons and a whimsical waist sash. It is hands-down one of the most memorable wedding dresses of 2015.
The ladies weren’t the only stylish ones there. Spencer and his groomsmen donned blue seersucker suits, the perfect Southern detail for a summer wedding in Alabama.
The fabulous ladies at Morgan Ashley Salon did Ashlee’s hair and make-up. Erin and Corey Nolen of Nolen Photography captured the day and we’re so glad that they did. Their work is phenomenal and they did an amazing job catching every little detail.
We helped Ashlee + Spencer create a wedding monogram that was carried throughout the day. Her choice of using a neutral color such as navy for her koozies and cups was perfect. Magnificent Cakes designed the bride’s cake which was displayed on our gold sequin tablecloth. It doesn’t get much more elegant or graceful than Ashlee’s wedding cake display. Their monogram was used once again printed in gold on ivory napkins. Side note: do NOT miss her stylish Kate Spade toasting flutes.
If you’ve ever attending a wedding where a string trio performed live, then you know there is no sound quite like it. Our favorite ceremony musicians, Cahaba River Strings, played the prelude as well as the ceremony music. Blackberry Breeze entertained guests during the reception, even when a mid-evening thunderstorm rolled through forcing us to move quickly inside the chapel. A million thanks to them for rolling with it and picking up right where they left off.
At the end of the night, the couple rode away in Hampton, one of three Star Sapphires in the world with a sliding roof. We’re so glad they chose this beautiful getaway car from Birmingham Bridal Carriages, since it made for a perfect exit.
After the couple returned from their honeymoon we asked them a few questions about themselves. Here is what they had to say:
How did you and Spencer meet and how did you know he was the one? Spencer and I met at Auburn where we both went to college. People always say when you meet “the one” you just know, and I always thought that was way ridiculous until I met Spencer. I knew I was going to marry him after about the third date! (So corny, I almost hate saying it, but it was true!!)
Obviously your wedding dress was stunning, what made you choose it? I wanted my wedding dress to be simple & southern. I didn’t want elaborate beading or intricate lace. When I saw it I liked it, and when I tried it on I was in love! It wasn’t showy or princess-y. It was perfectly simple and southern!
Where did you guys honeymoon and how did you choose that location? Spencer and I went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It was fabulous! We knew we wanted to go to the Caribbean, but not to any of the islands that all of our friends had gone to. So it was an easy choice! I’d recommend to anyone!
