I’ve been staring at the screen for ten minutes trying to figure out where to start with Kyra + Paul’s big day. The Sonnet House could search for ten years and still not find a more gracious bride than Kyra. We had so much fun working with her and her dad, Behle. Meetings with them were productive, but always rewarding simply by being able to spend time with them.
Kyra found Brandon Gresham of Simple Color Photography from our preferred vendors list and this was our first hint that her day would be magical. Brandon always does an amazing job and this wedding was no different. She also brought in Jan O’Donnell to design both the bride’s cake and the groom’s cake. But this was no ordinary cake display. The five-tier buttercream cake sat atop a bed of white flowers and a sparkling silver sequin tablecloth. The groom’s cake was chocolate, and the groom’s family provided traditional Italian desserts too.
The White Room, also one of our favorite dress shops, was the first place Kyra looked for wedding gowns and it didn’t take her long to find the one. Her strapless, mermaid style Anne Barge dress was the first one she tried on. Her bridesmaids wore amethyst tulle dresses from the Jenny Yoo collection with a jeweled belt. The men weren’t too shabby either wearing handsome black tuxedos. One of our favorite photos is Paul helping his nephew get ready.
Kyra + Paul held their evening ceremony at St. Mark’s Catholic Church just from us. When guests arrived to The Sonnet House for the reception, they were welcomed to our courtyard for cocktail hour and greeted with passed hors d’oeuvres like applewood smoked chicken sausage bites with cajun aioli, spanikopitas, and bacon wrapped jumbo Gulf shrimp. We also helped Kyra to create a monogram that was used throughout the wedding on programs, koozies, beverage cups, and napkins.
With a large guest count, Kyra wanted us to plan on using a tent from the beginning. The forecast the week of the wedding called for scattered thunderstorms, so the decision was made to have the tent cover the back patio. Fortunately we never saw a drop of rain on Saturday! Didn’t Event Rentals Unlimited do an amazing job on the tent? A full liner was installed along with two beautiful crystal chandeliers. Corey used ‘purple smoke’ shantung linens from BBJ Linen on all of the tables and topped them with stunning arrangements of white roses and hydrangea, Kyra’s favorite.
Kyra + Paul are back from the honeymoon and we sent them a few questions about their big day:
Obviously florals and decor were important to you, where did you draw inspiration from for the overall aesthetic of the day? For as long I can remember, I’ve always wanted a wedding with flowers, flowers, and more flowers. I’ve always been obsessed with hydrangeas and roses and Corey just hit it out of the park!
Your wedding gown was a STUNNER, where did you purchase it and who was the designer? My dress was an Anne Barge gown and the very first dress I tried on! I couldn’t have asked for a better place than the White Room! They are beyond amazing!
What was your favorite part of the planning process? Everything. Just seeing what you guys took from our first visit when I was telling you my vision and then seeing it come to life… I was beyond speechless. You guys made planning a wedding so easy! It’s not normal for a bride to not be stressed out, and I can honestly say I wasn’t the least bit stressed during the entire planning process thanks to you guys!
Rain was always a concern of yours (hence the fabulous tent), and we went forward with the rain plan because of the weather forecast. In the end it didn’t rain, what would you tell brides who are facing a chance on rain on their wedding day? It’s better to be safe rather than sorry. I knew that with the number of guests I had, if it did rain and I didn’t have the tent, it would have been a nightmare. So to continue with planning a wedding stress free, the tent was the way to go… not to mention it gave a completely different elegant feel to the entire wedding… seriously, how can you say no to drapes and chandeliers?!
You and Paul did something that I wish every couple would do, you took a few days to yourselves between the wedding and departing for your honeymoon. How valuable were those days off? It was one of the best decisions we made! The entire week before the wedding you are non stop on the go and then the wedding day comes and it flies by! The morning after our wedding we both were exhausted and would have dreaded getting on an airplane and leaving for our honeymoon right then. We wanted to give ourselves a couple days to recoup before our honeymoon so we would actually be able to really enjoy our honeymoon and not be tired the entire time.
