Amber + Cannon are two of the most cheerful, bright, and energetic people The Sonnet House has had the privilege to work with! Their January wedding was certainly one to remember considering it was in the mid-seventies all day and well into the evening. Lush, romantic blooms created the perfect contrast to the bare trees and overcast skies. Warm tones weren’t just used for florals; Amber’s bridesmaids wore floor length burgundy downs while Cannon and his groomsmen donned traditional black tuxedos. A member of the bridal party made S’mores cupcakes for Cannon’s dessert table which was stationed in front of our stone fireplace. While it was our first time to work with Jennifer Oetting Photography, we instantly fell in love and look forward to our next wedding together!
Q&A with Amber + Cannon | August 2017
So that our readers can get to know you a little better, tell us about yourselves. | Cannon and I met through a mutual friend in 2014 on a random weekend night walking to my car. My friend knew Cannon and stoped to talk to him and his brother. We decided to all go grab something to eat together. I instantly knew there was something special about Cannon as soon as I met him. After they dropped us off at my car Cannon forgot my name! Needless to say I was pretty annoyed and slammed the door in his face!!! After that he apologized and I decided to move along because I knew he was interested in someone else. It wasn’t until about a month later we ran into each other at a concert and spent the whole time together. From there we started dating! | He proposed to me on January 30th at our apartment with just the two of us. He had a Shutterfly book made for me that was titled “The Things We Share”. Inside were pictures of us from various events and moments through out our relationship. On the very last page it said “Will you marry me?” As soon as I looked up he was down on his knee! He had dinner reservations for us and we ended up spending the rest of our night with our friends celebrating. | Cannon and I both love country music so anytime we can we love to go to concerts together. We also have a dog named Jax that we absolutely adore. We love being dog parents together! | We just bought our first home together so right now our life is revolved around fixing it up! We are currently spending every weekend at Home Depot and for our first anniversary we are going to Disney World. We are so excited!
Amber, you killed it when it came to details and tying things together. What was your inspiration during wedding planning and what was your favorite part? | My favorite part about planning our wedding was definitely shopping for my dress. Village Bridal made the experience so fun and everything I hoped for when it came to shopping for a dress. I went shopping for my dress right after Cannon and I got engaged because I wanted to plan my colors and theme around my dress. All my inspiration came from my dress for sure.
Cannon, the two of you chose to do a first look instead of seeing each other for the first time during the ceremony. From a groom’s perspective, did you love seeing each other before hand? Was it nice being about to touch and love, and kiss her without a crowd of people being around? | Yes, seeing each other before the wedding was a great decision! You don’t get a whole lot of one on one time with each other so it was nice to have that time to be with each other before the ceremony. It was also nice to be able to take our pictures beforehand so that we were able to go straight upstairs to eat after the ceremony. We wanted as much time with our friends and family that we could get. It’s a great moment that I will always remember and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.
Amber, your bachelorette trip to Nashville is one worth mentioning. Not only did you catch your hair on fire (we’d love to hear that story), but you also found some amazing vintage books that complemented your wedding day perfectly, can you tell us about it? | My bachelorette trip was a blast! Since I love country music I had to have it in Nashville. It’s my “happy place.” It was everything I wanted and my friends did an amazing job planning it. It was also the same weekend as my birthday so it was a full weekend of celebrating! I actually caught my hair on fire from blowing out the candles on my birthday cake. Although, for a split second it was scary, it was probably one of the most hilarious things that happened on the trip. We were also able to do the Nashville Petal Tavern which I highly recommended for any bachelorette trip in Nashville! I actually got those small books at Francesca’s Boutique in Opry Mills. They have the cutest things there if you are looking for small details for a wedding!
For many couples planning outdoor Winter weddings in Alabama, it can be extremely frustrating having no clue what the weather will do. You guys were married on a super warm day in January, what advice would you give other brides facing the same issues? | The advice I would give to any Winter bride is to plan accordingly! I had bought rain boots, a pashmina, (the pink one I wore for my pictures!) and I also had booties stored away! I think the Sonnet House is the perfect venue for any wedding because you have options if it rains or snows. I knew our day would be beautiful even if we had to have everything in the chapel. My other advice to winter brides is to wait to buy your shoes and accessories right after Christmas when they are on sale! I saved so much money doing this. And lastly, I would highly recommend doing a first look! If you are having a winter wedding you have to take into consideration that if you wait to see each other you will be rushed for pictures due to it getting dark outside early. Do the first look so you get every picture you want without being rushed.
