Audrey and Landon’s wedding day was one of those that we could talk about for hours if given the chance. In fact, they were guests at Landon’s cousin’s wedding about a month after theirs and it was fun getting to relive it with them! Something that stood out about Audrey is that she knew almost exactly what she wanted from the beginning. Our in-house florist, Corey Daniel Florals, loves working with colorful flowers and knew her vision for the day would be breathtaking on the wedding day.

After touring with us and securing their March 25 date, she immediately sent over a curated inspiration board of not just colors and flowers she leaned toward but also details like the chiffon drapery on the backporch lined with a floral and greenery garland. We definitely don’t expect every couple to know what they want that “easily,” but it sure is nice when they do.

Audrey and Landon hired Kristen Pugh Photography, one of our favorites, to capture the big day and one of our favorite things about Kristen is that she has an eye for getting every detail just perfectly. From the flat lay being complete with the invitation suite and securing flowers on hand specifically for detail photos, to catching even the most perfect candid shots – she gets it 100% right 100% of the time and we truly look forward to working with her any chance we get. Do you see why?!

Her beautiful gown came from Aisle + Veil in Roswell, Georgia which is about a two and a half hour drive from Birmingham, but totally worth it if you find the perfect wedding dress like Audrey did. This shop in particular tends to carry bridal lines that are simple but stunning and the owner, Amanda, says one of her favorite things about the dresses they carry is that they make brides feel comfortable and effortless on the most special day of their lives. This is a shining example of the attitude you want helping you find the most important piece of clothing you’ll ever wear. And if a road trip to Georgia isn’t in the cards for you don’t sweat it — there are plenty of fabulous shops here in Birmingham that can help you find the perfect one.

fun venues

We are seeing more wedding parties brave the champagne shower but did you know there’s a right and a wrong way to do it? Anyone who has ever popped a bottle of bubbly knows that it’s nerve wracking even when you’re not trying to take the perfect photo so here are a few tips: DON’T shake the bottle before you open it. This makes uncorking it even more of a guessing game. DO uncork it, then hold your thumb over the top of the bottle [aimed away from you] and then give it a shake. When you remove your thumb from the opening be ready for a shower! You can also keep part of your thumb over the opening to control the direction and flow of how fast it comes out [similar to how you’d slow the spray of a water hose.] ALSO, it’s never a bad idea to practice this ahead of time so whether you’re just having date night at home or are enjoying your bachelorette trip practice your popping skills.

flower ideas for decorating

Hanging drapery on the back porch has a few purposes but our favorite is definitely creating a backdrop for dreamy photos of the couple. It also frames in the entrance for your ceremony if it’s being held at The Sonnet House’s fireplace, and you get triple use out of it if you’re also planning on having your reception on the back patio since it will also be where you are introduced from for the first dance. When deciding on a flower budget it’s definitely important to take into consideration “how much” something will be used and this is a great example of getting the most bang for your buck.

candid photos

There are so many beautiful details from their wedding day that it’s almost easy to forget just how p e r f e c t Audrey’s hair and make up was. Sara Elizabeth Artistry did a perfect job of bringing Audrey’s vision to life. Her beautiful hair was styled in soft curls with a partial pull back of twisted braids. We’re still not over it.

The flowers. We could do a whole blog post just on these magnificent flowers. The bridesmaids wore lavender, almost lilac, formal dresses and while normally we would steer brides away from having bouquets in the same color palette as the dress color — in this case it was perfect. Mother nature does such a beautiful job of growing purple flowers in such a variety of shades that when you add in greenery and pops of cream you can achieve a rich, monochromatic look that makes you want to dive into them. Combined with Kristen’s vision of having the bridesmaids use their bouquets to frame in one of Audrey’s portraits is really the cherry on top. We’re seeing this shot more and more often and we hope it’s trend that doesn’t go away any time soon.

Magic Muffins Bakery in Cahaba Heights is one of our favorites and has been on our preferred vendor list for over ten years and this is why. Audrey chose a classic and very simple design for the wedding cake but that piped detail is no joke. It takes a very skilled decorator to master those lines and that in itself elevates the cake from simple to breaktaking. The top tier was crowned with a “Mr. and Mrs. Gaskins” topper with flowers and pops on alternating tiers. The gold cake stand in the above photos is ours and something available for any of our couples to use.

The guest tables at the reception had two styles of arrangements. The first were mixed garden style arrangements in our neutral mercury glass footed compotes and the second style consisted of a mixture of different types of candles on our gold disks and pops of greenery.

While their pooches may not have been in physical attendance they definitely were not forgotten! From the groom’s cake topper to the bar menu and even their lavender koozies, JoJo and Luna were there in spirit.
